Smart Materials

Pivot's designers use several different materials that are better both for the environment and you. When you visit the boutique, each item has a Pivot tag that describes what the item is made of and why it is eco-smart. The designers chose their materials for good reasons and we want to pass those along to you. At Pivot you can fall in love with a gorgeous top because it looks and feels amazing on, and then read the tag and feel even better. Below are some examples of the materials that Pivot's designers use to create their eco- chic collections.

HEMPCEL is a blend of hemp and lyocell. Lyocell is a fiber made from wood pulp through an environmentally responsible process and hemp has one of the smallest ecological footprints of any fiber.

HEMP and ORGANIC COTTON is a blend of two fabrics grown without pesticides. Hemp is an extremely long and durable fiber, so its blend with organic cotton results in clothing that will stand the test of time.

HEMP and SILK make an elegant blend. Hemp requires no pesticides, needs little water, and renews the soil with each growth cycle.

LINEN was one of the first fabrics of civilization. Linen is made from the flax plant, which is incredibly hardy and requires little water and few or no pesticides and fertilizers to grow.

LYOCELL is a biodegradable fiber made from cellulose found in wood pulp from managed tree farms. Non-toxic solvents are used in its production and then recycled, creating a manufacturing process with very little byproduct.

MERINO WOOL is a renewable and fiber. The all-natural material is also very breathable and odor-repellent.

ORGANIC COTTON is grown on land that has been free of chemicals for at least three years. Conventionally grown cotton is one of the world's most heavily sprayed crops. With organic cotton you get the comfort of cotton without the pesticides next to your skin.

ORGANIC WOOL comes from organically raised sheep. This means the sheep are not given any synthetic hormones or dipped in insecticide baths, and they graze in outdoor pasture. If the sheep feel better, then won't you?

RECYCLED and VINTAGE materials are used to create a variety of unique items from jewelry to handbags and more. Sometimes the second time around it’s more inspired!

SOY is formed as a byproduct of tofu manufacturing. SOY, an extremely durable fiber, naturally draws moisture away from your body and is soft, smooth and light against your skin.

SURPLUS material is that which is leftover from the manufacturing process. Designers work with factories to collect remnant materials in order to create new, inspired pieces. Less waste and gorgeous new designs - it can't get much smarter than that.

BABY ALPACA The yarn is sourced from high in the Andes Mountains where the alpacas are free-range farmed in traditional Peruvian custom.

MONGOLIAN CASHMERE, used by Stewart+Brown, is made solely from Mongolian resources. This helps to ensure that nomadic herders have the means to sustain their centuries-old heritage.
