Pivot Boutique, LLC was founded in March 2007 by Jessa Brinkmeyer,
and opened as Chicago's first eco-fashion boutique in September 2007.
Pivot quickly became one of the most talked about boutiques in Chicago,
and was featured in media outlets such as USA Today, NYLON Magazine,
Lucky Magazine, Chicago Public Radio, DailyCandy, Chicago Tribune, Teen
Vogue and more. Jessa set out to align fashion and good design with
smart living, featuring designers using organic and sustainable
materials and processes. Pivot featured lines from more than 50
designers including Lara Miller, Frei Designs, Linda Loudermilk,
Loyale, Good Society and She Bible.
Jessa chose the name Pivot because she wanted the shop to be a place for people to come and learn, explore, interact and turn their perspectives on what living a more sustainable lifestyle means. During its two years in operation as a storefront, Pivot was known not just as a place for fashion retail, but also a center for eco lifestyle events, education and community building. Jessa produced more than 20 events, most notably a four-day exhibit titled MoSS: Museum of Sustainable Style held during Chicago's Fashion Focus week. MoSS featured sustainable fashion and furniture designs from Chicago artists, a panel discussion and short animated film. Jessa was recognized for her work in the green community in April 2009 with a Green Award from Chicago magazine.
In October 2009, Jessa closed Pivot's Chicago storefront to refocus resources and energies while continuing to support eco-fashion, spreading the message that you don't need to sacrifice style to have a more conscious wardrobe. Jessa continues to engage in dialogue on sustainable lifestyles, eco-fashion, good design and more on Pivot's blog, Facebook Fan Page and Twitter account. Pivot events will make a return beginning in 2010 throughout the Chicagoland area, and online shopping is also still available.
In addition to promoting more conscious lifestyles through Pivot's eco-fashion brand, Jessa is also working with other business owners and entrepreneurs on media relations, marketing and product consulting to help them spread their own sustainability messages.
